Markham Park Expansion Plans:The design plans for the expansion of Markham Park were designed by Foothill Associates in May, 2004. The City Council approved the solicitation of construction bids on June 22nd. Four bids were received and opened on July 30th. On August 10th, 2004 the Lincoln City Council approved McGuire Pacific Constructors, of Auburn, to proceed with the park expansion construction. McGuire Pacific was also the successful bidder for the recently approved Third Street Park in Lincoln. On August 10th the City Council also approved an additional allocation of $66,060 from the unappropriated PFE Community Services budget in order to allow construction of the total expansion project as originally designed by Foothill Associates. The total amount allocated for the Markham Park expansion project is $242,952.25. The expanded park will include a new children's swing area, an observation area with benches overlooking Markham Ravine, a covered pavilion with picnic tables and barbeque pits, informational kiosks and signage, a unisex bathroom with one stall, new lawn area, and the planting of new lawn, shrubs and trees throughout. The approved plan will result in a 4.7 acres park, twice the size as currently exists. The Markham Park will become a major trailhead for the proposed multi-use trail system to be developed throughout the Markham Ravine upon implementation of the Markham Ravine Corridor Enhancement Project. Please go to the links below for more specific design details. Due to inclement weather conditions during the current Winter and Spring seasons, construction of the expanded park has been delayed on numerous occasions. Initially, construction was projected to be completed by March, 2005 and officially open during the second annual 2005 Lincoln Creek Week. The park expansion is now projected to be completed in August, 2005. Upon completion there will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony to be hosted by the MRNC, the City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Committee and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. The specific details of the ribbon cutting event, which will followed by a "Celebration in the Park," will be calendared on our website. The Markham Ravine Neighborhood Committee sincerely thanks all who have helped realize our park dreams. We thank our neighbors. We thank the Lincoln City Council members. We thank the Parks and Recreation Committee members. We thank the City of Lincoln staff. We have all worked together. We will all come and have fun at the park in the Summer of 2005. Links:
