Saturday, April 2

Creek Week Kickoff Celebration at Markham Park

   
   Lincoln News Messenger Announces Creek Week!
   

10 am – 1 pm

Meet at the lawn area adjacent to Markham Park on Toyon Circle Drive. The park is currently being expanded and new construction is not yet completed. A park grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony will be scheduled within the next two months. Our Creek Week kickoff celebration will be a children's festival on the lawn with games, food and fun.

   

Monday, April 4

Education and Advocacy - Our California State Legislature Representatives

   

10 am – 11 am

Meet at the State Capitol rotunda to prepare for meetings scheduled with our legislative representatives to discuss preservation of open space, riparian habitats and creeks throughout Lincoln. Preparation for those returning on April 5–6 to participate in the California Watershed Network’s 4th Annual Legislator’s Symposium.

   

11 am – 3 pm

Meetings with Assemblyman Tim Leslie, 4th District, in Room 4164 (11 am), and staff of Senator Sam Aanestad, 4th District, in Room 2054 (1 pm). To be followed by meetings with elected representatives serving on legislative committees which are responsible for overseeing legislation dealing with open space protection and enhancement.

   

Wed, April 6

Community Education Forum

 

 

6 pm – 9 pm

Meet at McBean Park, Pavilion building, Hwy 193.

  1. Markham Ravine Neighborhood Committee presentation of “Awards of Merit,” to be given to seven individuals and organizations making significant contributions towards the protection and enhancement of Markham Ravine, while actively working with the MRNC during the past three years.
     

  2. Placer County Supervisor Robert Weygandt presentation overview of the Placer Legacy program and the Placer County Conservation Plan (PCCP), developed to protect our County’s open space habitats.
     

  3. Updated status of the Markham Ravine Corridor Enhancement Project, as being developed by Foothill Associates, Restoration Resources and the City of Lincoln.
     

  4. Film Showing - “Preserving the Cultural History of Lincoln.” Meet the Lincoln High School student documentarians, as well as some of the local Lincoln resident historians filmed in the video, who will participate in a roundtable discussion.  
     

  5. Selection of the “Best of Photos” of Markham Ravine submitted to website.

 

 

Saturday, April 9

Lincoln Creeks - Cleanup Day

 

 

7:30 am – 9 am

Markham Ravine walking tour (Sierra Foothills Chapter / Audubon Society).
Meet at Markham Park.

 

 

9 am – 12 noon

  1. Markham Ravine cleanup – Teal Hollow neighborhood
    Meet at Markham Park  
     

  2. Markham Ravine cleanup – Brookview neighborhood
    Meet at Savannah bridge.
     

  3. Auburn Ravine cleanup
    Meet at Ferrari Ranch Road, half mile East of Hwy 65.
     

  4. Coon Creek cleanup
    Meet at the intersection of Wise Rd and McCourtney Rd.

   

12 noon – 1 pm

Lunch - provided to all volunteers - Markham Park

Raffle prize winners announced - gifts donated by local merchants.

   

1 pm – 3 pm

Walk-About educational tour of the Teal Hollow branch of the Markham Ravine, led by Riley Swift, President and founder of Restoration Resources. During this tour there will also be placement of bird nesting houses and wood duck boxes, which have been constructed by Boy Scout Troop #845 members.
