Carlos Alcalá: Foundation aims to raise $1 million to support Lincoln causesBy Carlos Alcalá -- Bee Columnist - (Published August 29, 2004)From the Lincoln log: The Community Foundation of Lincoln is already promoting a benefit dinner that won't happen for a couple of months. Of course, at $100 a head ($150 per couple), Lincolnians may need to save up for the event. It's part of the foundation's effort to raise a $1 million endowment to support worthy local projects. A cool mil sounds like a lot for a little local group that's barely a year old. Then again, if it could've collected just a quarter from each of its neighbor's visitors in the last year, it would be there already. I'm talking about the roughly 4 million gamblers at nearby Thunder Valley. They left behind a lot more than $1 million. Anyhow, if you want to start saving for the foundation's "Founders Celebration," it'll be held Oct. 18 at Buonarroti restaurant. Buonarroti, aside from being Michelangelo's surname, means something like "good turner." Good turnout is what the foundation is hoping for. For info, call Janel Marchi at (916) 645-0196.
